The Ride of a Lifetime
“The Ride of a Lifetime” is the memoir of Robert Iger telling his rise from a low-level job in American Broadcasting Company(ABC) to the Chief Executive Officer for The Disney Company. The book signs off around the time when Disneyland opened its doors in Shanghai, China. It isn’t impossible to come across a person who has heard of Disney, and it is not exaggerating to say that the same company has touched our lives in one way or another. Hence it is easy to gravitate to this book. The books will appeal to two kinds of readers. The first kind is the one who likes to emulate successful habits. The second kind is the one who wants to know about the entertainment business.
In the opening pages, Iger jots down a list of ten principles for the reader. In a way, Iger makes it easy for the reader. The rest of the pages shows where he acquired these principles and how he used them to his advantage. If you do not venture out beyond the introductory pages, you still have the takeaways ready for you. At the end of the book, Iger lists these ten principles again like an affirmation. No man can make it any easier for you to learn and adopt the best things from his life. Besides this point, there are two sections to this book aptly titled Learning and Leading. Iger patiently learns during the initial years in ABC and Capital Cities. Then, he applies all the learning while leading Disney.
