The murals on Route 66 in Flagstaff
Since my unsuccessful attempt at reading “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck, I have been enamored by Route 66. A group of people travels using this route to California in search of a better life. Although this journey is a part of the book, the plight of these people stayed with me. As a result, this route always brings up melancholy in my mind.
When I heard about the murals in Flagstaff along Route 66, I was interested in photographing them. I was planning on photographing the murals on S San Francisco Street off the historic Route 66. The walls lining the street featured a few murals. At this point, I have to admit that there is nothing artistic about my desire to photograph these murals. It is difficult to arrive at a composition that has not been done and copied to death. I wish to keep these photographs as one of those many you take to reminisce in the advanced age — a proof for been there and done that.
