Suzhal: The Vortex

Suzhal: The Vortex is an eight-part web series on Prime Video. It is an engaging watch. Set during the days of a village festival, Sub-Inspector Chakravarthi, fondly called Sakkarai and played by Kathir, investigates a missing girl’s case in a tiny town. As his character puts it, everyone knows everyone in this town, yet there are secrets.

The positives of the web series are many. Thankfully, this one doesn’t end in a cliffhanger at the end of the eight episodes! We get a closure! The freedom of multiple episodes and hence the duration helps the creators tell us a story in an exciting yet non-confusing way. Imagine if the creators had to bundle this story into a movie for less than three hours. The end product would be confusing and also give you a headache!

Moreover, there is an ensemble cast of seasoned performers like Kathir, Aishwarya Rajesh, and Parthipan. In addition, we also get to see Sriya Reddy in a good performance. These are just the names we recognize immediately, but many others while watching the series capture your attention.

The writer-duo, Pushkar-Gayathri, also credited with the suspenseful and triumphant Vikram-Vedha, builds the suspense slowly, revealing a twist towards the end of each episode. As a result, the series is ideally suited for binge-watching. So if you are not doing anything this weekend, go for it!
