A friend has been selected for a new position inside his firm. The times have been difficult, and he has been stressed about work recently. With this selection, he can continue at his current firm for a longer time and doesn’t have to put himself in the market for a new job. After hearing this news and sensing elation in his voice, I asked. When are you celebrating? The answer was immediate. When I complete one year in this new position! The quick response made me ponder! What kind of wins should we celebrate? Small wins or Big wins.

Celebrating small wins provides instant gratification and reminds us of the progress made. It also strengthens our resolve to reach the final objective. On top of all these positives, a celebration also helps us reinvigorate ourselves. But, unfortunately, there is also a downside. If you focus only on small wins, complacency sets in, and eventually, there is a need for more ambition to achieve the more significant objectives.

On the other hand, celebrating big wins can be incredibly rewarding and provide a certified accomplishment for achieving a significant milestone. Moreover, the outside world recognizes these major and visible milestones, further boosting your confidence and credibility. However, there is a downside too for this approach. It will create undue pressure on you to constantly achieve massive successes.
